Activist, community organizer, human rights defender… There are many ways to describe my work with immigrant families from Latin America impacted by police brutality in San Francisco.
I provide accompaniment to families who are on a journey for justice for their loved ones stolen by police. I am there to help them bridge language, technical, logistical and information gaps, so that they can make informed decisions about how to construct their justice demands. Whether its about filing a lawsuit or supporting policy changes or joining a direct action, we talk about what’s-what and who’s-who, so that they can choose how to use their powerful voices best and limited resources.
We try to stay mindful of the fine line that exists between activism that activates trauma and action that supports healing and empowerment.
